Digital Technologies

In your own experience, how has your creativity developed through using digital technology to complete your coursework productions?

What did you do for AS?
(Preliminary, Main task, Research and Planning, Using Blogger, logos)

I used digital technology extensively throughout my AS qualification. I used a digital SLR to record my preliminary footage which demonstrated my ability to understand how shot types work together to piece together a scene.

For the presentation of my work, I used Blogger on a smart phone and desktop PC to help make my presentation more visual with the ability to create animated presentations using services such as slide share and YouTube. This would not be possible using traditional methods such as a book portfolio.

For the research phase of my video, I used various websites such as my inspirational artists' websites, Vimeo, YouTube, Facebook and Google. YouTube has proven to be the largest source of inspiration for crativity in my work. By being able to view other people's work so easily, it allows me to draw inspiration and build upon my own work. A lot of YouTubers create helpful tutorials on film making on their channels to help others.

Two of the key digital technologies used are Adobe Premiere Pro and Photoshop CS5.5/6. These applications were instrumental in the creation and fabrication of our project. Premiere Pro was our main platform for synchronising our recorded video and assembling our video timeline. It allowed me to grade my video, add special effects and manipulate transitions. I used Photoshop to create graphics and vectors for use as titles in our video. A lot of people would use premiere's integrated title Creation kit, but that is quite restricting in terms of how much you can manipulate your text and tends to look quite 'forced' and the trained eye can recognise that people used preset titles in some cases. Photoshop allowed me to create themed, detailed titles and graphics with transparency to make inserting them into premiere so easy.

Overall digital technology serves as a major part o all of my productions. Without it most of what I've achieved would not have been possible.  plan to continue relying on digital technology to progress through my A2 and to produce a More exciting, visual and engaging presentation.

Initial Filming Plan

We are going to conduct an initial shoot on Monday. We are going to shoot some cutaways and very short scenes that we can use as filler to break up he main narrative. We only have two hours fee to film so it makes the most sense to film the cutaways and fillers in this slot where it doesn't really matter about the location as it won't be distinguishable anyway.

Shots we plan to cover include extreme close ups, tracking shots, crane shots and establishing shots. We plan to visit the warehouse location first and fully explore inside. It is expected that we'll likely end up improvising and shooting scenes that we hadn't planed depending on the suitability of the location. This is good because it allows us to experiment with unplanned scenes and add more variety to our range of shots that we wouldn't have had otherwise. Oddly enough, many of our unintentional or unplanned shoots are More successful than our planned ones and can serve to drastically change the course of our storyboard, similarly to last year.
